My Husband’s Wife

It was ridiculous. It was preposterous. It was riddled with plot holes. Coincidences happen that are never explained. Nonsense red herrings are thrown in willy nilly and never followed up on. It does that frustrating thing where the whole thing is narrated in first person, and yet the inner dialogue of the narrator is inexplicably withholding or dishonest, even though we’re supposed to be inside their own private thoughts. I had to reread certain sections at the end several times because I could not keep up with the countless outrageous twists.

And yet… I absolutely inhaled this book. In less than four hours on audio. The premise is so grabbing and the mysteries keep building all the way up to the very end, it felt impossible to put down. And there was nothing about the writing style or the characters that I took big issue with or made this anything other than a smooth read. So even though I was rolling my eyes at some of the final revelations, I have to give massive credit for the entertainment factor.
