Pet Sematary

This is my third Stephen King novel (after It and The Shining), and my opinion remains unchanged that the man has an incredible talent for storytelling, but an unappealing writing style. Something about all the clunky, prosaic, overexplanatory language becomes really grating to me after a while. And yet I remain impressed with his ability to create countless iconic stories, even when he's using recycled ideas. Case in point: me being fully engaged in this book even though I didn't love the writing. Oh, and I also thought the ending was a little weak and rushed.

I also just want to add that I loved the fact that this story felt so familiar to me from the beginning, even though I've never read it before, or seen any movies, or recall anyone actually telling me about it, just because Stephen King writes the kind of stories that permeate culture, whether you realize it or not. In this case, I discovered that it felt familiar because the Farmer Fred character from South Park is a parody of Jud Crandall from this book. I might be the last person in the world to know that though.
